5 Steps to Keep Your Dog's Joints Healthy

Just because your dog is not old and suffering from joint pain doesn't mean you don't need to do anything for your dog yet. Now is the time to start taking precautions to help your dog avoid inflammation and pain. So what can dog owners do? Here are five steps you can take:

1. Balanced Diet

Making sure your dog has a balanced diet is key to ensuring their overall health is on point. Just like humans, your pet also requires certain minerals, vitamins and proteins so that they can stay healthy and grow well. So don't just keep feeding your dog whenever he's hungry. Make sure to measure out the appropriate portion according to his age and health condition. You can check with your veterinarian as to how much would be good for your own dog. That also includes keeping an eye on how much treats you give you dog a day. In this way, you can help keep various illness, including joint pain, from affecting your dog.

2. Physical Activity

Regular exercise is absolutely necessary for our dogs as a lack of can cause excessive weight gain. When our dog is over weight, the increased body weight exerts extra pressure on the joint areas, such as around the hips and knees, which can lead to joint pain. That is why veterinarians recommend taking their dogs for daily walks and in doing various physical and/or mental activities. In this way, your dog can burn off excess fat and stay in tip top shape.

3. Weight Check

It would be a good idea to check what weight range is considered healthy for your dog and his joints. Even when you are watching your dog's meals and taking your dog on regular walks & exercises, you should make checking your dog's weight at least a weekly ritual. In this way, you can detect the issue before it becomes a huge issue and quickly help fix the issue.

4. Joint Supplements

In addition to your dog's healthy and balanced diet, you should consider giving your dog joint supplements. This helps to ensure that your dog obtains the nutrients he needs that he may not necessarily get from their diet. You can try Petaxin Hip + Join Support soft chews which are packed with Glucosamine (which helps maintain your dog's collagen and joint fluid to support joint cushion), organic turmeric (support healthy inflammatory response), chondroitin & msm (support bone and joint structure for mobility & flexibility), and manganese (for healthy cartilage tissue support).

5. Safe Environment

Joint health can also be affected from minor knee and hip injuries. Therefore, another great way to help keep your dog's joints healthy is to prevent injury. So make sure that nothing in the house could cause injury to your dog. Also when you engage in indoor or outdoor activities, it is also good practice to check that the surroundings are safe for your dog to play in.

We hope that these tips can help keep your dog's joints healthy and safe. However, if you notice that your dog is limping, showing disinterest in outdoor activities, having difficulty climbing stairs, and/or whining, then it would be wise to consult with your vet to see what needs to be done to treat your dog.
